When the DeVille trim was introduced by Cadillac in 1949 as a prestige trim level for the Series 62 Luxury Coupe, they probably had no idea how huge of an American icon they were giving birth to.
As American car manufacturers shifted away from the rounded out, artistic stylings of the 50’s, to the long and sharp, “land-barge” looks of the 60’s, no car aged so gracefully as the Cadillac DeVille.
After being restyled after the Eldorado in 1969, the DeVille went on to dominate Cadillac sales in 1970, accounting for 76% of all Cadillacs sold. With its two-year-old 375 horsepower V8 engine, the 1970 DeVille would also be the last model year with a convertible trim available from the manufacturer.
Its stunning looks are sure to awaken deep memories of the American 60’s and 70’s, and when you’re cruising down Main St. low-and-slow on a Friday night, surrounded by neon signs and the smell of cigarette smoke wafting through the air, it’ll all come back to you.
