The 1966 Ford Mustang: An American Icon.
When the Mustang made its debut at the World’s Fair in New York in 1964 ½, it caused quite a stir in the automotive industry. It’s lightweight design and solid powerplant coupled with cunning good looks and a custom moniker that was to-die-for solidified its place in history as the birth of the pony car.
Every iteration since the original has been bigger and more powerful; did you know it uses to be considered a compact car? Nowadays, it seems like the doors open to roughly the length of a 747’s wingspan, but back in the day, this was a light-hearted, free-spirited roadster that was great for tearing through a hilly road on a Sunday afternoon.
This is the car that started it all, and one that is instantly recognizable by just about anyone with eyes and a pulse. This is the symbol of the American Dream in mechanical form and there’s no way you won’t be grinning ear-to-ear when you take it out for a spin.
It seems that everyone has memories attached to a Mustang; maybe your neighbor had one; maybe it was your first car; maybe, it was the car you showed up to your date’s house with on prom night; any way you slice it, you’ve probably got at least one fond memory of this classic drop-top coupe.
